Abel Ickowicz
MD, MHSc, FRCPC
Dr. Ickowicz is a Staff Psychiatrist at The Hospital for Sick Children, Canada’s largest centre and most research-intensive hospital dedicated to improving children’s health. He is an Associate Professor in the Division of Child and Youth Mental and the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto.
Born in Costa Rica, Dr. Ickowicz obtained a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Costa Rica and trained in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. He recently completed a Master in Health Science (Bioethics) at Toronto’s Joint Centre for Bioethics.
Dr. Ickowicz has held distinguished academic leadership positions including President of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychiatrist-in-Chief at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. He is editor-emeritus of the Journal of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Recognized for his excellence in education, Dr. Ickowicz is actively involved in undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, professional development and continuing education.
Research Synopsis
Dr. Ickowicz has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications and book chapters. His current interests include Developmental Psychopathology and Bioethics. Presently he is involved in a knowledge synthesis study on depression screening and mental health outcomes in children and adolescents, as well as, a systematic exploration of bias influence in psychotherapy research and publications.
