Queer in Practice (QuiP)
An advocacy and mentorship group within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto
A group of residents, medical students, and staff have developed an advocacy and mentorship group within the Department of Psychiatry, and we invite you to join us!
Queer in Practice (QuiP) aims to foster Mentoring, Support, Advocacy and Education in relation to LGBTQ2+ mental health.
Our goals are as follows:
1. Mentorship: To foster professional connections on a one-to-one and group basis, inviting staff psychiatrists, residents and medical students to take part.
2. Support: To advance support for queer mental health practitioners, trainees and care for LGBTQ2+ populations.
3. Advocacy: To advocate for the development of mental health services focused upon improving wellness for the LGBTQ2+ community.
4. Education: To help educate medical learners, psychiatrists, and other mental health practitioners on queer mental health issues and culturally-competent care.
We will be hosting various educational events throughout the year, and hope to establish a community of practice for practitioners, patients, and allies with the shared goal of improving the LGBTQ2+ experience with psychiatry and mental health care more generally. All are welcome to join.
