History of Medicine Program
The History of Medicine Program is a unique unit within the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, housing the Hannah Chair in the History of Medicine at the University of Toronto. The Chair and Program were established “in the hope of creating enduring cultures of teaching and research in the history of medicine and healthcare.”
The Hannah Chair has been held since 1991 by Professor Edward Shorter.
In 1996 he was also cross-appointed as a Professor of Psychiatry in recognition of his contributions to the history of this specialty.
Prof. Shorter offers two courses through the Department of History, Faculty of Arts and Science.
