Research Synopsis

Dr. Hawco is a cognitive neuroscientist working with functional neuroimaging techniques, particularly fMRI, and brain stimulation approaches. His work focuses on identifying biomarkers of psychiatric disease and treatment response, as well as data-driven approaches for analysis. These issues are approached via combination of neuroimaging and brain stimulation, including concurrent TMS-fMRI (performing stimulation while simultaneously measuring changes in brain activity). Current projects include working memory and social functions in schizophrenia, and examining neural mechanisms of response to brain stimulation therapies, with the goal of developing predictive models and biomarkers to identify responders and non-responders prior to treatment
