Gilla Shapiro
MA(Cantab), MPP/MPA, PhD, CPsych
Dr. Gilla Shapiro is a psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. She completed her PhD in clinical psychology at McGill University and her dualdegree MPA/MPP at the London School of Economics and Political Science and the Hertie School of Governance. Dr. Shapiro’s research interests include health behaviour, cancer prevention, psychosocial oncology, the social determinants of health, health equity, and policy analysis. She has published over 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts as well as several book chapters and commissioned reports. She received the Rising Star Award from CIHR’s Institute of Health Sciences and Policy Research (2018) and the Royal Society of Canada’s Alice Wilson Award (2020). In the past, Dr. Shapiro has conducted research for the World Health Organization, St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, the Global Public Policy institute, and the Social Science Research Center Berlin. Her research has been funded by the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
