Jennifer Bell
Jennifer Bell is Bioethicist for Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (PM) and Research Scientist within the Department of Supportive Care at PM. She is an Assistant Professor (status only) in the Department of Psychiatry and Member of the University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics. Jennifer received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy specializing in bioethics from the University of Toronto, a master’s degree in philosophy and biomedical ethics from McGill University, and a Ph.D. in bioethics from the University of British Columbia.
Research Synopsis
Dr. Bell's program of research applies an ethics lens of relational autonomy and supportive decision making to complex decisional contexts in advanced cancer care. Most recently she has been a co-investigator on several national research grants funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research investigating patients’ decision-making processes and autonomy related to cancer clinical trial participation. Currently, she is interested in extending her program of research to investigating advanced cancer patients' decision-making processes about medically assisted dying.
