Joel Jeffries
Dr. Joel Jeffries is a staff psychiatrist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Toronto. He has been an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Pharmacy at the University of Toronto for over 30 years and continues to teach residents, medical students and pharmacists. He is co-author of “Living and Working with Schizophrenia” and the “Clinical Handbook of Psychotropic Drugs”, widely used internationally and now in its 19th edition with total sales over 200,000. He is a consultant to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Canadian Medical Protective Association and the Workplace Safety Inspection Board. He has special expertise in differential diagnosis, psychosis including Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia, Asperger’s Disorder and other autistic syndromes, and in pharmacotherapy. He has published over 90 papers in scientific journals and many educational pamphlets. Dr. Jeffries’ clinical practice includes emergency room, in-patient and outpatient care, crisis intervention, and consultations for agencies, insurance companies, lawyers, family doctors, psychiatrists and other specialists. He was awarded the Jane Chamberlin Award for “outstanding contributions to community mental health” in Ontario in 2007. He was made a Fellow of the Canadian Psychiatric Association in 2009 and was made a Distinguished Fellow of the Canadian Psychiatric Association in 2012.
