I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate training in the United Kingdom, obtaining accreditation as a specialist in General Psychiatry, Substance Misuse Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry. I practiced as a Forensic Psychiatrist in the UK for 5 years before moving to Canada in 2014.
I am a Staff Psychiatrist within the Forensic Division of the Complex Care and Recovery Programme at CAMH and Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto.
I carry out inpatient work on the Forensic Assessment & Triage Unit, the primary interface between CAMH and the Court system, and provide psychiatric opinion to the Mental Health Court at Old City Hall on a weekly basis. I am the Clinical Lead for the CAMH partnership programme with the Ministry of Correctional Services & Community Safety, the Forensic Early Intervention Service (FEIS). FEIS provides enhanced triage, assessment and case management services to inmates at Toronto South Detention Centre and the Vanier Correctional Centre for Women. I am the Medical Head – Criminal Justice Interface, which is a CAMH leadership position directing and co-ordinating the various CAMH services that directly interface with the Criminal Justice System.
Research Synopsis
My focus, and my passion, is translation of research evidence into best-practice models and protocols, through service development and innovation, driving and consolidating change, followed by comprehensive service evaluation.
I play a key role in the FEIS Research Team, collecting and evaluating data related to the FEIS Programme.
I am involved with education and teaching development in relation to mental health within Corrections.
