Dr. Mina Husain completed medical school at St. George’s University of London (UK). She went on to complete her Foundation Training as an Academic Fellow in the North of England and Postgraduate Speciality Training in General Adult Psychiatry at the prestigious Maudsley Training Programme in London. She was raised between the UK and Canada and returned to Toronto in 2022 as a Clinician Teacher at CAMH and Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto.

Alongside her clinical work she has wide-ranging involvement in academia, teaching and the Creative Arts. To build on her research skills she has completed a certificate in Global Clinical Research at Harvard Medical School (2017). She has a strong interest in Global Mental Health and her research has been published in peer reviewed journals. Throughout her career she has been involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. She is passionate about capacity building and has spent time as an Honorary Clinical Tutor at the University of Malawi.

Dr. Husain has utilised the creative arts as a tool for public engagement, raising awareness and addressing the stigma attached to mental illness. She has produced award winning short films which have been officially selected at several international film festivals (including Toronto International Film Festival), public engagement events, academic events and are available for screening on online platforms (like Amazon Prime). Her work has been covered by media platforms including the BBC and the Guardian newspaper. She is currently completing a Masters degree at SOAS University of London in Global Media and Communications, where her thesis is focused on mental health.
