Sarah Levitt

Dr. Levitt is a general adult psychiatrist who primarily works with the University Health Network Assertive Community Treatment Team and on a general adult inpatient unit. She completed a Master’s of Science at the University of Oxford in the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology. Dr. Levitt graduated from medical school at the University of Toronto and completed her Psychiatry training at the University of Toronto as well. Following her residency, Dr. Levitt was the inaugural Brain Medicine Fellow at the University of Toronto. During this fellowship, Dr. Levitt helped to create the Brain Medicine Clinic at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and continues to participate in that clinic as a Staff Psychiatrist providing transdisciplinary assessments to individuals with complex brain disorders.

Dr. Levitt’s academic activities include research into psychiatric ethics and the philosophy of psychiatry. In particular, Dr. Levitt is interested in the development of palliative psychiatry, both with respect to providing evidence-based palliative care for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) and developing a palliative approach for psychiatric practice. Dr. Levitt also has experience in teaching and education, having both participated in education research and curriculum development. Finally, Dr. Levitt has developed an interest in mental health and the climate crisis, and is a founding member of the Canadian Climate Psychiatry Alliance.
