Sefi Kronenberg
Dr. Kronenberg has completed most of his training in Israel. He holds an M.D. and a Ph.D. from the University of Tel-Aviv, Tel-Aviv, Israel. His Ph.D. dissertation focused on pharmacogenetic approaches to paediatric anxiety and depression. He later completed a specialty program in child and adolescent psychiatry at Schneider Children’s Medical Centre of Israel (SCMCI) and Ge’ha Medical Health Centre.
In 2013, Dr. Kronenberg began a two-year fellowship at the Department of Psychiatry at the Hospital for Sick Children (specializing in clinical and research aspects of OCD under the supervision of Dr. Paul Arnold).
In 2016, Dr. Kronenberg became a staff psychiatrist at the Hospital for Sick Children. He is now specializing in the area of paediatric pain; all his clinical and research time is dedicated to pain. In 2017, Dr. Kronenberg became the mental health lead of the Chronic Pain Clinic at the Hospital for Sick Children. This is the most established pediatric pain clinic in Ontario, and has been in operation for more than 20 years. In addition, he consults the Acute and Transitional Pain Services of the hospital. Lastly, he serves as the psychiatrist of the Get Up and Go Program at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. This program is the only pediatric inpatient pain-specific rehabilitation program in Canada
Research Synopsis
Dr. Kronenberg’s research focuses on the underpinnings of physical and mental pain (chronic wide-spread pain, depression, anxiety, somatic symptoms) in children and adolescents. He has special interest in cross-diagnostic factors such as irritability, agitation and emotional suppression.
In most of his research he applies algorithmic approaches to better elucidate specific endophenotypes and response profiles to different interventions.
