Dr. Valverde da Conceicao is a Child and Youth Psychiatrist at the Reproductive Life Stages Program at Women’s College Hospital. She’s an Assistant Professor at University of Toronto. Her clinical work involves general Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with a special focus on early childhood disorders.
She studied Medicine at the Federal University of Porto Alegre in Brazil, where she also completed her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry residency training and PhD. At the University of Brasilia, in Brazil, she designed a pioneering university-based child development course for early childhood educators who worked at public schools. Prior to joining UofT, she served as an Assistant Professor at Queen’s University, Canada.
Dr Valverde da Conceicao is a clinician teacher who has taught both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate residents in Psychiatry, Child Psychiatry and Pediatrics in Brazil and Canada. She has been actively engaged with education, having had the opportunity to be part of a workforce to implement a new curriculum that integrated Humanities at a medical school, has used innovative methods for teaching Human Development and has worked with curriculum development for a Child Psychiatry residency program. She’s a member of the Steering Committee of the Special Interest Group on Prevention of Perinatal Mental Health Disorders at The International Marcé Society. She is involved in international collaborations to advance education in Child Psychiatry.
