Violet Kaspar
Dr. Kaspar is a faculty member of the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto, and a scientist with the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. She leads a program of research on urban health, focusing on mental health disparities and determinants of mental health in racial and cultural minority youth. Dr. Kaspar is appointed to the College of Reviewers of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and served on federal review committees of the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Mental Health (NIH/NIMH) and the Canadian Tri-Council. She also participated as a discussant in expert panels for academic consultations by Health Canada (Ottawa) and the National Research Council (Washington, DC) on topics of race, ethnicity, and health.
Research Synopsis
Areas of research include delineation of social and cultural determinants of mental health and health disparities, and the assessment of longitudinal and concurrent impacts of childhood adversities on health outcomes, including depressive episodes, suicidal ideation, and general health status.
